The Origin of the Inca Fire Massage
The Inca Fire Massage was born from the union of ancient Andean wisdom and modern therapeutic practices.
I created this protocol with a vision of sharing, bringing together ancestral rituals and contemporary healing into one sacred experience.
Inspired by purification ceremonies using fire, coca leaves, and sacred herbs, this massage is designed to cleanse the energetic body, restore inner balance, and awaken the vital fire—the inner furnace, or lower Dantien.
In Andean cosmology, fire (Nina) represents the transforming energy that purifies and restores vitality.
That’s why this massage works not only on the physical body, but also on the emotional and spiritual levels.
1. Preparing the Sacred Space
Before beginning, the therapist cleanses both the environment and their own energy using floral water, herbal smoke, or Andean macerations made with plants such as rue, mint, eucalyptus, molle, and coca leaves.
This step opens the sacred space and connects with the intention of the ritual: to release dense energies and allow the fire to act with clarity and respect.
2. The Herbal Cleansing
A piece of cotton or a warm towel soaked in the herbal maceration is used to cleanse the body from head to toe.
This feels like a refreshing and purifying caress that prepares the skin and senses to receive the warmth of fire and the revitalizing touch of the massage.
Each movement is accompanied by conscious breathing to center the mind and relax the body.

3. The Sensibilization Phase
Before applying the fire, the body is first prepared through energetic hand movements performed at a distance, without physical touch.
These gestures activate and mobilize the energy, beginning from the arms, where it is common to feel warmth, coolness, tingling, or a subtle sense of pressure.
The process then focuses on the abdominal area, the energetic furnace, gently sensitizing and awakening this center in preparation for the fire ritual.
After the stomach, the attention moves to the heart, and finally to the head, where it is also normal to experience subtle bodily sensations or even a soft buzzing.
This phase helps open the energetic channels and deepen the person’s awareness, creating the ideal internal state before working with fire.
4. Fire as Medicine
Over a warm, damp towel, the therapist carefully applies herbal alcohol and sets it on fire in specific areas such as the abdomen, chest, and head.
The fire does not burn; instead, it generates a deep heat that mobilizes stagnant energy and reactivates the body’s vital flow.
This heat stimulates the lower Dantien, the energetic center in the belly, and activates the “inner furnace”, promoting a sensation of strength, balance, and renewal.
During this process, the senses awaken: the sound of the fire, the warmth on the skin, and the aroma of herbs create a state of deep presence and inner connection.

5. Energetic Cleansing with Plants and Flowers
After the fire, male and female rue, fresh flowers, molle, and coca leaves are used to clear any remaining energy and seal the ritual.
Other herbs may also be added depending on the intention of the session.
The therapist may arrange petals in symbolic shapes or perform a small pago a la tierra (offering to the Earth), where the person silently gives thanks and sets an intention for what they wish to manifest or transform.
Flowers represent the most subtle aspect of nature, helping to heal emotions and harmonize the heart.

6. The Calling of the Soul
This step is not included in every session. It is reserved for cases of deep exhaustion, sadness, or emotional disconnection.
The therapist may perform the calling of the soul, a traditional practice meant to bring back the person’s vital energy or “lost spirit.”
Using tobacco smoke or fire, the therapist cleanses the head and softly pronounces the person’s full name, inviting their soul to return and fully inhabit the body.
7. The Massage
Before applying the fire, the body is massaged with personalized pressure, deep or gentle, depending on the person’s needs.
This step helps to ease physical tension and calm the mind, allowing the energy to flow more freely before the ritual of fire begins.
8. Closing the Ritual
The massage can be complemented with circular abdominal movements, gentle diaphragm work, or light percussions on the back to activate breathing and release blockages.
Fire, aroma, and touch merge in a profound process of purification, a rebirth on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.
